Low Back Pain

Spinal Synergy Physiotherapy was established in 2008 to be the premier clinic treating spine related problems and our staff are highly skilled in assessing and treating lower back pain.

The spinal column is made of 3 major curves (cervical, thoracic, lumbar) and each section consists of a set number of vertebrae, disc, spinal nerves, ligaments and muscles; however far and away the commonest spine injuries involves the lower back. This is known as the lumbar region.

Close to 80% of the population will have a significant episode of low back pain at some point and more than 80% of these will have recurrent episodes of low back pain within one year. We provide manual therapy in combination with specific back strengthening exercise to treat the acute episodes but also to prevent repeat episodes.

Because of the integrated function of the spine a comprehensive assessment approach is needed to assess specifically the lumbar region but also associated region which contribute to the spine imbalances, increased loading or compression. This commonly involves the SIJ & pelvis but also the thoracic spine. We have developed a structured method to assess all spine conditions and constantly update our approach based on current evidence, the latest research findings, and regular attendance to further our professional skills.

Common forms of low back pain that we treat include:

  • Disc bulges and related injuries
  • Nerve root involvement
  • Facet joint pain
  • Degenerative spinal conditions
  • Spinal Stenosis
  • Lumbar stress reaction/fracture
  • Spondylolisthesis
  • Postural related low back pain
